ASTM A179 Carbon Steel Embedded G Fin Tubes For ACHEs Air Cooled Heat Exchangers

 

ASTM A179 seamless carbon steel G-type finned tubes are the core high-efficiency heat exchange elements of heat exchanger air coolers. These tubes use ASTM A179 cold-drawn seamless low-carbon steel tubing as the base, with metal fins embedded in spiral G-shaped grooves on the outside of the tube and fixed using a mechanical embedding process. G-type finned tubes offer 30%–50% higher heat exchange efficiency than plain tubes, enabling compact equipment design. Furthermore, the mechanical embedding process increases friction, preventing fins from detaching under vibration and thermal cycling conditions. Most importantly, A179 finned tubes offer high cost-effectiveness, long service life, and low maintenance costs.

Key Application

 

ASTM A179 embedded (G-type) finned tubes are primarily used for air cooled heat exchangers (ACHEs) operating under low to medium temperature (≤300–350°C), low pressure and clean service conditions. They are widely applied to dry/wet air coolers, compressor intercoolers, industrial condensers and HVAC systems.

 

Dry air heat exchangers ACHE are used for cooling process fluids in oil refineries and chemical plants, cooling lubricating oils in power plants, generator air coolers, and data center cooling (especially suitable for water-scarce areas).

 

Wet/Evaporative air heat exchangers are used in process fluid cooling, condensation, and recovery systems. They are suitable for high-temperature environments.

 

Hybrid dry-wet hybrid air heat exchangers balance water consumption and heat transfer efficiency by handling base loads with dry cooling and peak loads with evaporative cooling.

The finning is tight — you can tell they used a proper cold-forming process because the fins don't move at all when you try to wiggle them. We've had issues before with other suppliers where the fins would come loose after a few thermal cycles, but these ones feel solid.
